Establishing a Scalable Leadership Development Framework

The Challenge
What challenge or need led you to work with Claria Partners?

Zipcar identified a need to formalize its learning and development efforts, with a particular focus on leadership development. While the organization benefited from a strong culture and highly capable teams, it lacked a cohesive framework to systematically prepare future leaders and support managers as they navigated increasing complexity.

The organization sought to better equip managers with the skills needed to lead effectively. This included navigating difficult conversations, fostering accountability, building trust, and providing clear, consistent feedback. At the same time, Zipcar aimed to cultivate a stronger enterprise mindset. Encouraging leaders to think beyond their individual functions and contribute more broadly to company objectives.

Our Approach
How did Claria Partners help address that challenge?

Claria Partners began by developing a deep understanding of Zipcar’s culture, people, and leadership challenges. Through stakeholder interviews and close collaboration with internal leaders, we surfaced key development priorities and identified the capabilities most critical to Zipcar’s future success.

Based on these insights, Claria designed and delivered two customized learning programs. One focused on people managers and another on individual contributors. Each program was tailored to address distinct skill gaps and career growth needs, while reinforcing shared leadership principles across the organization. The learning experience blended practical tools, interactive sessions, reflection, and collaboration. Ensuring content felt relevant, engaging, and immediately applicable.

The Results
What results or impact did you see after working with Claria Partners?

The leadership development programs have had a measurable impact across the organization. Managers’ report increased confidence and capability in leading their teams, fostering collaboration, and thinking more strategically about their role in the business.

Since launching the programs, Zipcar has promoted at least six employees into managerial roles. Many participants credit the learning experience with helping them feel prepared to step into leadership responsibilities. The organization has also seen meaningful improvements in employee engagement and eNPS scores, along with strong positive feedback through internal surveys. Together, these outcomes reflect higher retention, stronger engagement, and a noticeable lift in leadership effectiveness and morale across teams.
